Chelmsford Homelessness
Chelmsford has seen a rise in Homelessness since 2010. Figures show that there are roughly 701 homeless people in Chelmsford with a 200% increase in the number of rough sleepers housed in temporary accommodation.
Homelessness however is a national issue, not just a local one. People sleep rough for many reasons including unemployment, difficulties at home and mental health problems and the issue can lead to further mental health problems, malnutrition, isolation or addiction, making getting out of homelessness even more difficult.
People living on the streets, or those who regularly participate in ‘sofa surfing’, a hidden form of homelessness, deserve to become productive national citizens, each with the potential to contribute to a sustainable and successful society.
