New social spaces to create success together
We were approached by the university with some exciting opportunities for us to create spaces for students in both Cambridge and Chelmsford.
As part of our Strategic Plan, we committed to:
- create opportunities and deliver activities that make students proud to be part of the ARU community
- create spaces for students to socialise, collaborate and succeed, enabling them to transform the lives of others and deliver on our vision of students creating success together
These aims, alongside our research about what students want in the spaces, and working with contractors and designers are becoming a reality.
So here's what's happening...
Cambridge
We relocated our SU office from Helmore to the ground floor of Peter Taylor House in September 2017. This has allowed the SU space to grow significantly in size, which means we could create a large area for student social space.
The space is a comfortable, welcoming, flexible space for students to use how they please, including;
- relaxing with friends
- working with other students
- informal group studying
- course-based society meet ups
- interest-based society meet ups
- meetings with student representatives (course reps, faculty reps, campaign reps and full time Executive Officers)
- meetings with SU staff
The space includes:
- a variety of seating, sofas and booths
- desks and power points to charge laptops etc.
- a kitchen area for students to use with water taps, a kettle and a microwave
- society lockers and a trophy cabinet
- bookable meeting room with video conferencing facilities
