Committee Structure

 

Student Staff Liaison Committees (SSLCs) – These are the key meetings for Course Reps to attend, where the meeting focuses primarily on the feedback of Reps. They are the official forum for liaison between students and staff on issues related to the management and student experience of the course including curriculum content, learning, teaching, assessment and learning resources. All Course Reps are invited and required to attend or send a report to their SSLC at their campus. 

 

Learning, Teaching & Assessment Subcommittee (LTA) – This committee discusses continuing improvements in learning, teaching and assessment within the university. This includes the development, delivery and monitoring of the Learning, Teaching and Assessment Strategy. There are 2 places for Reps to attend this meeting on behalf of students. These take place once a semester.

 

Quality Enhancement & Standards Committee (QESC) – This is where academic regulations, standards, quality assurance and enhancement are discussed. Strategies to enhance the quality of education are agreed and monitored at this meeting. These include staff development, admissions policies and sharing and embedding of best practice. QESC takes place twice a semester. There are 2 places for Reps at this meeting to attend on behalf of students.

 

Faculty Quality Enhancement and Standards Subcommittee (FQESS) – This is where the monitoring of academic regulations and the quality of education is reviewed by the faculty. Any minor curriculum revisions, including changes to courses or modules are considered at this meeting. FQESS also discusses the relationships between the faculty, associate colleges, external examiners and any professional bodies. There are 2 places for Reps to attend; preferably the Faculty Rep from the campus where the meeting is held and one other Rep.

 

Faculty Research Subcommittee – These are the key meetings for Faculty PGR Reps to attend. They explore the culture of research, including knowledge transfer and the support available for staff and post graduate research students. They also monitor the quality and volume of research within the faculty. There are places for 2 PGR Reps to attend.

 

Student Experience Committee (SEC) - This committee is responsible for monitoring and reviewing the quality of the Anglia Ruskin student experience locally, regionally and internationally as well as developing & implementing new ways of improving it through strategies and policies. There are 6 places for Reps to attend this meeting on behalf of students; preferable 2 Undergraduates, 2 Post-graduates from taught courses and 2 Post-Graduate Researchers.

 

Research Ethics Subcommittee – This committee is responsible for the development of policy and guidance on research ethics. The committee can consider ethics applications, and will consider reports from Faculty Research Ethics Panels. There is a place for 1 PGR Rep for the term of office of one year.

 

Research Degrees Subcommittee – This committee oversees the management of research degrees and monitors reports from Faculty Research Subcommittees.  Research Degrees Subcommittee will develop and monitor quality assurance activities and consider feedback on the student experience. There are places for 2 PGR Reps to attend for a term of office of one year.

 

Research Committee – This committee is responsible for developing strategy and policy relating to Post Graduate Research. This includes scholarships and appointments, knowledge exchange, income generation and innovation. The meetings support the enhancement of the academic culture and the quality and volume of research activity. There are places for 2 PGR Reps to attend for a term of office of one year.

 

Senate - The purpose of Senate is to oversee all general issues relating to teaching, courses, research and scholarship activity at ARU. It makes recommendations to the Board of Governors on the Corporate Plan and the Academic Profile of ARU. Senate determines strategies and policies relating to admissions, teaching, learning and research. It is also the committee which has oversight on setting, maintaining and enhancing academic standards, quality and ethics of learning and research. Senate is responsible for policies and procedures relating to assessment, examination and awards. Senate is chaired by the Vice Chancellor and is attended by the Union President and one other full time Executive Officer.
