Age Well East’s Telephone Befriending service connects volunteers with adults aged 18+ for weekly 30-minute calls. Volunteers are matched with the same client to build a consistent, supportive friendship and brighten their day. A simple act of kindness that combats loneliness and provides valuable companionship. This volunteering opportunity is flexible around the volunteer's schedule.
As a telephone befriender, you will commit to making just one call per week, lasting approximately 30 minutes. During these calls, your role is simple but incredibly impactful – to listen, offer companionship and engage in conversation. You will be matched with the same person each week, allowing you to build a meaningful, supportive relationship over time.
By offering a listening ear, you can help reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation, providing comfort and reassurance to someone who may not have regular social contact. Your calls can make a profound difference to their mental wellbeing, creating a positive, lasting impact on their life.
By sharing your time and kindness, you’ll help someone feel valued, supported and less alone.
If you're looking for a flexible and meaningful way to make a difference, our Telephone Befriending role is for you.
