Haematology & Oncology
Welcome to the Haematology & Oncology Society!
We are a student led society aiming to organise educational and fundraising events to raise awareness of the oncology and haematology specialities and of national cancer charities and their work. Our academic talks will help develop interests and impart knowledge onto those interested in this area. We also want to celebrate the work of national cancer charities by supporting them with fundraisers and charity drives, such as a blood donation drive.
1 in 2 people will be affected by cancer in their lifetime, most people will already know of family members and friends who have been affected. As a society we want to improve our knowledge on how cancer presents so that in the future we can catch it earlier and give people the time with family that is so precious. We hope to raise awareness of these symptoms and also of how cancer affects people in their daily lives so to best support more people in the future. For this reason the society is open to all students from any course, but mainly aimed at those with a medical or biomedical interest or are hoping to pursue careers in a haematology or oncology speciality.
We are offering a full membership for students who want to attend the in-person events after Christmas and also an online-only option for the virtual events alone, which will likely be all the events this term. We are an inclusive society and hope to have members from all the range of medical courses offered at ARU so do not be afraid to join or send us a message to find out more!
Check out our Instagram (@aru.honcsoc) or Facebook (ARU HOnc Society) for updates on events and keep up an awareness of cancer and its presentations.
