Sustainability

Welcome to the Sustainability Society at ARU Cambridge!

Our mission is to champion sustainability efforts in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), fostering a community passionate about environmental issues. We aim to build partnerships with local businesses and organisations to advance sustainability initiatives while providing opportunities for learning, skill development, and personal growth for students.

Events and Activities:

The Green Space Project

~ Join us on every other Tuesday for a 'Leaf and Lunch'! (Tickets up now) ~

We understand that University life can become stressful, and you might need to retreat back into nature for an hour or two every so often; Gardening is a great way to relieve this tension whilst soaking in some sun and meeting some new friends in a comforting environment.  Horticulture is not something that is easily accessible for students, therefore we aim to make it so whilst developing your skills and knowledge in Botany, cheap upcycling techniques and Garden design.  We have already enhanced a derelict plot on campus that we are turning into a productive Kitchen (with added Biodiversity) garden and intend to turn it into an urban oasis for all students to enjoy!

No prior experience is needed, just an old pair of shoes!

Eco-Movie Nights

Every first Monday of the month, we host an online event (via MS Teams) in which we stream an environmentally based film for students from all ARU campuses.  These films span from Studio Ghiblis, Attenborough Documentaries to Climate Change Films and, most importantly, are voted on by you!

Collaborative Events

We strive to enable other societies to host sustainable events for our collective members and anybody else who would like to come along or contribute.  Whether this be internationally important sustainable methods, repair workshops or book swaps, we consider that, as a combined community, we have an opportunity to not only to entertain you, but to reduce our Carbon footprint, upcycle materials and generally increase wellbeing in doing so!

If you are interested in hosting an event alongside us, please feel free to contact us!

Membership is free because we believe that sustainability should be accessible for everyone. Depending on activity type or workshop, we may have to ask for a small fee but we never want monetary issues to be a deterent for people, so please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.
