Sustainability

Welcome to the Sustainability Society at ARU Cambridge!

Our mission is to champion sustainability efforts in alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), fostering a community passionate about environmental issues. We aim to build partnerships with local businesses and organisations to advance sustainability initiatives while providing opportunities for learning, skill development, and personal growth for students.

Types of Events and Activities:

  • Workshops: Engage in hands-on learning about intersectional sustainability, access to sustainability, and energy-saving habits. Participate in fashion DIY sessions like clothing repair and upscaling, as well as workshops centered around career skills.
  • Item Swaps: Join our regular events to exchange clothes and other items such as books, promoting a circular economy and reducing waste.
  • Charity Collaborations: Collaborate with local charities for fundraising events and eco-friendly pop-up shops, showcasing sustainability-focused products
  • Green Campus Tours: Discover the university’s green infrastructure and sustainable initiatives through guided tours.
  • Tree Planting and Green Space Revitalisation: Partner with local environmental groups for community tree planting days and restore green spaces on and off campus.
  • Environmental Movie Nights: Enjoy screenings of environmental films and documentaries.
  • Biodiversity Monitoring Program: Get hands-on conservation experience through collaboration with local biodiversity monitoring projects.
  • Allotment Collaboration: Work with local allotments to grow fresh produce and herbs, learning about sustainable agriculture.

Membership is free because we believe that sustainability should be accessible for everyone! Depending on activity type or workshop, we may have to ask for a small fee but we never want monetary issues to be a deterent for people, so please feel free to reach out if you have any questions.

Become a Sustainability Officer in your own society !

We're working with the Student Union to encourage students from all disciplines and societies to become Sustainability Officers within their own groups and societies. Sustainability impacts every field, and your perspective can drive meaningful change.

As a Sustainability Officer, you'll have the support to promote eco-friendly practices and lead initiatives that align with your society’s goals. It’s a great way to make an impact on campus while building valuable experience. If you’re interested in fostering a sustainable culture at ARU, we’re here to support you.
