    Sunstone Society

    Passed
Hello Everyone!!! My name is Catarina and I am a third-year Biomedical Science student. Me and another student – Sara Medinas, a first-year Software Engineering student – would like to start a new society. The Sunstone Society. This society has been named ''Sunstone Society'' in reference to the Sunstone Comics by Stjepan Šejic and Linda Lukšic Šejic. The Sunstone Society is about opening horizons. It is about spreading awareness and educating our fellow students and community members. We believe BDSM – Bondage and Discipline, Domination and Submission, Sadism and Masochism – is a world filled with stereotypes and misinformation, and we would like to help people explore this issue. Like our literary namesake, we are an LGBT+ inclusive space, and will endeavour to keep it a safer space for diverse genders, sexual and relationship orientations, and ethnic or religious backgrounds. Within BDSM, we can find several tools and learnings that have an impact on one’s personal but also academic and professional life. We believe in educating and helping people with their insecurities, their self-esteem and self-love. The Sunstone Society aims at pushing back against discrimination based on how people experience their bodies, intimacies and sexualities; it seeks to widen our understanding of sexuality and to problematize the ways in which stigma is associated with non-normative, but consensual, approach to pleasure, pain and power play. In order to do so, we are aiming to provide our members with a range of diversified events: from an Online Book Club to different lectures and round-tables about BDSM – touching on the importance of consent, aftercare, and information, among others – and to diverse demonstrations – such as Bondage and Power Exchange. There is no minimum experience required, only an open mind and a willingness to explore and discuss BDSM and its many related topics. There's a bit of everything for everyone: from the more theoretical, to workshops, and the sharing of experience. All of this in an environment that will be non-sexual, non-erotic, but still - we hope! - deeply stimulating. We are very excited to get to know everyone and, with you, build a more open and inclusive Future!
