Purpose of the role:

As a Course Representative, you'll play a crucial role in shaping the student experience. Each tutor group or year group has a dedicated rep who acts as the bridge between students and faculty. Your main goal? Ensure that every student's voice is heard and that their concerns and suggestions are addressed.

Responsibilities of the role of Course Rep:

As a Course Rep, you'll have a range of important responsibilities, including:

  • Attending Student Staff Liaison Committees: You'll represent your peers at these meetings, presenting feedback to faculty staff and advocating for changes that will improve the student experience.
  • Signposting Students to Support Providers: Be the go-to person for your peers, guiding them to the appropriate support services when they need help.
  • Listening to Feedback: Actively seek out and listen to the feedback and concerns of your fellow students, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met.

As a Faculty Representative, you'll be the voice of students within your faculty, ensuring their concerns, suggestions, and ideas are heard at the highest levels. Each campus has at least one rep per faculty, making your role pivotal in bridging the gap between students and faculty staff across different locations. Your main objective? Enhance the academic experience for all students within your faculty.

  • Being Part Of The Executive Committee: Work with other Faculty Reps and Officers, run academic campaigns, and attend Student Summit.
  • Attending Faculty Partnership Meetings: Represent your peers at these meetings, voicing student feedback and advocating for improvements.
  • Engaging with Student Support Services: Guide students to appropriate support resources and services.
  • Gathering and Presenting Feedback: Proactively seek feedback from students across your faculty and present it to faculty staff.
  • Attending and Leading Faculty Forums with Students: Facilitate discussions among students within your faculty, ensuring their voices are heard and their concerns addressed.

  • Attending NUS Conferences and Events: Represent ARU at national NUS conferences, forums, and events, bringing the perspectives and concerns of ARU students to the forefront.
  • Engaging with ARU Students: Regularly seek feedback and input from your peers at ARU to ensure you accurately represent their views.
  • Advocating for ARU Students: Present and advocate for the issues, needs, and ideas of ARU students at NUS meetings.
  • Networking with Other Reps: Build relationships with other NUS reps and student leaders from across the country to share insights and strategies.

As a PGR Representative, you'll be the voice of postgraduate research students within your faculty and across the university. You'll work to ensure that the needs, concerns, and ideas of PGR students are heard and addressed by faculty and university staff. Your primary objective? Improve the academic and research experience for all PGR students at ARU.

 

What You'll Gain

What dates would I be in my role?

Voting closes at 11/10/24 and you will remain a rep until 31 July 2025.

Are the roles paid?

All roles in this election are voluntary, but there are some additional paid opportunities made available from reps.

Do I need experience?

No, anyone can apply for the rep roles, and all training will be provided.

Do I need a manifesto?

The Faculty Rep is the only role that needs a manifesto.

Who is RON?

RON stands for Re-Open Nominations and allows voters to cast against the listed candidates.

Can I vote for myself?

Yes, and we encourage you to do so!

Can I use a QR code or link?

Yes, the URL is angliastudent.com/election.

Can I Use My Professional Account To Campaign If I Work For ARU/the SU?

No. Use personal accounts only.

When/where can I vote?

You can vote online between 7 – 15 October 2024.

I'm a nursing student

Nursing students elect their representatives in class time, ask your tutor if you are without representation.
