"Hack-a-ton 2025" is a 2-day design competition that has been organised by the ARU STEM Society in collaboration with the Business Society and the Finance and Investment Society. It is a challenge that involves students pairing into groups to create a solution to a real-world problem using any creative methods of your choice. This problem will be unveiled on the day of the hackathon and immediately, students will get to work! The full itinerary for the event, including dates, times and locations is included below.
There are going to be breakout rooms all over the Marconi building for design, and the CAD Suites are available for students who wish to use CAD to better illustrate their solutions. All skills (UX design, graphic design, coding, etc.) can be contributed towards the solution created. At the end of the design, all groups will be required to 'pitch' their solutions before a varied group of judges, including lecturers, industry professionals and alumni. The solutions will be judged on their functionality, applicability in the real world, user experience, presentation clarity and aesthetic quality, amongst other factors. The top 3 best teams will be awarded lucrative prizes ranging from Amazon gift cards to medals, trophies and even vouchers for free food at 92 on campus. All participants will receive a professional certificate that can be added to their LinkedIn profiles to secure job offers.
During the event, we will have brief guest lectures, refreshments and opportunities to network with industry professionals and sponsors. We assure you that Hack-a-ton 2025 provides a wholesome opportunity to grow and engage yourself all round as a student, a lecturer, or even a random individual who decides to take part. We encourage you to sign up. It's gonna be amazing.
