ARU Students’ Union invites members of the Chelmsford community and ARU students and staff to engage with leading figures in the fight for our planet. Your local MP Vicky Ford, Dr. Bob Evans visiting Fellow at the ARU Global Sustainability Institute and Becky Spencer, Head of Public Affairs for WWF UK, will be starting an extremely important dialogue.

The Government is currently shaping a new Environment Bill, the first in more than twenty years. It will set out a legal framework for the government’s promise to leave the environment in a better state over the next 25 years.

Wildlife populations around the world are being decimated. It starts right here at home; since 1970, 56% of species in the UK have declined and we’re one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world; ranking only 189th out of 218 in the global league table for nature.

We also need strong environmental legislation to fight inequality. Issues like air pollution disproportionally affect low income communities, disabled people and children, who have often contributed relatively little to creating the problem.

Event agenda: 6pm - 7:30pm

  • Fraser Yarwood-Luther, Vice-President, Anglia Ruskin University Students’ Union – Introduction
  • Keynote speech from Becky Spencer, Head of Public Affairs for WWF UK
  • Questions for the panel, including from the audience
  • Closing speech
  • 7:30pm - Drinks and networking

Join us to hear more on the new Environment Act and be part of the discussion.

Inclusion Fund

We believe that all students have a different experience and we want to ensure you get the best experience you possibly can in your unique position as a student at Anglia Ruskin. This is why we have created the inclusion fund. The fund's aim is to remove barriers to participation and engagement with Students’ Union activity for any students who may incur extra costs in order to take part.

This may include, for example, students with caring responsibilities who need to employ a registered carer to cover their responsibilities or students who require a facilitator or support worker to enable them to attend our events and activities.
