Amelia Brewer – My Manifesto

Hello Writtle. My name is Amelia, and I am running for Student Union President. I believe in the power of our community here at Writtle and our collaborations can instigate positive change. As your candidate, I am committed to representing your voice and ensuring the university is a safe place where we can all thrive.

My vision is to build an inclusive, supportive, positive environment where every single individual is recognised, valued, and welcome. My goal is to make our campus a place where we can learn and grow together academically and personally.

Key promises:

  1. Inclusive representation

Ensuring that ALL voices are heard. Different backgrounds, different identities, different interests, one community. I want the student union to represent everyone that makes our campus special, that means EVERYONE.

  1. The door is always open

Nobody goes unheard, no issue is undealt with, no voices stay silenced, nobody is alone.  Mental health is important, and I will push for everybody to have a place where the door is always open, and a conversation can always be had. A problem shared is a problem halved and the student union should be there to support you through anything.

  1. Sustainability

For a university that strives for the best futures for the environment, for agriculture, and for animal welfare, that work should start here and now. Utilising the tools and power at the disposal of the student union to become a sustainable campus, encouraging, and rewarding, green initiatives.

  1. Academic empowerment

Advocating for accessible and efficient academic resources is vital. Everyone is here to learn and receive that degree so everyone should be given the tools in order to do so. Whether that’s through improved library resources or study facilities, workshopping, networking, the tools should be readily available.

  1. Social and cultural events

Our community is full of beautiful personalities that should be encouraged to thrive in every way possible. Through lunch clubs, societies, or bar activities, all corners of our campus should be able to come together to share interests. A diverse range of events will help you feel seen and a part of our community.

  1. Transparency and accountability

Communication is key. You tell us what you need, we will do everything in our power to make it happen. You deserve to be listened to. I will listen to you!

I believe the student union should be proactive and supportive with full transparency. I am not just running to change things, I am running to improve the experience for everyone, no matter what. I want people to feel seen and heard, and I will work tirelessly to create a safe, diverse, positive environment within our campus, that we can all be proud of.
