Candidate for the position of Vice President (Business and Law)

Dear fellow students,

I am Kalp Sheth, a dedicated and enthusiastic student currently pursuing my BSc Hons in Business with Marketing at the Cambridge campus. As I finish my final year, I seek to stand as Vice – President for the Business and Law Faculty (B&L), at the Student Union. I believe positive change begins with positive individuals, who are committed to enhancing the student experience.

Beyond my academic pursuits, I am proud to be an active member of the vibrant Dil Se Desi (DSD) community, the Indian Society and Gujarati Society at ARU.

Hailing from a business background, I have been exposed to the dynamics of entrepreneurship and commerce from an early age. This has shaped not only my academic pursuits but also my understanding of the challenges and opportunities that exist within the business faculty today.

My journey at Anglia Ruskin University has been one of growth, learning, and collaboration. Throughout my time, I have gained valuable insights into the diverse needs and aspirations of our student community. I am motivated to use my experiences and knowledge to improve the quality of student life at ARU.

Now, as I approach the peak of my undergraduate studies, I am motivated to channel my experiences and knowledge into initiatives that will elevate the quality of student life at ARU.

Experience:

  • Student Ambassador, ARU College (2022 – present)
  • Gujarati Society, January – August 2023
  • Welcome Buddy Scheme 
  • International Buddy Scheme 
  • Student Ambassador ARU (Feb 2024 – present)

 

If elected I would aim to:

  • Collab with the Cambridge Union
    • Facilitate speakers, social events and debates/discussions and dialogue.
    • In turn, we will attract and allure an intellectual Cambridge audience to ARU
    • Invite professors, Poets, philosophers, politicians, entrepreneurs, journalists.
    • Guest speakers such as Imran Hasan from Cambridge University (Book writer),president of SUFI society

 

  • Efficient vending machines
    • Vegan Milk
    • Water machines, filled with cups daily
    • More items/ Options to choose from
    • Regular check-ups and cleaning
    • ADD GLUTEN FREE OPTIONS
    • Convenient after 8pm – machines in proximity with students will make it more accessible to get late night hot drinks/ beverages

 

  • E-scooter parkings’
    • With charging station
    • Safe spots
    • CCTV’s installed where parked (security)

 

  • Collaboration with Business societies, and Workshops
    • Collabs that can help Business students
    • Helps motivate more students to choose business 
    • Done monthly, at least once
    • Business fests/ forums with societies 

 

  • Build a gaming space to hangout
    • Snooker/ Pool Table
    • Provide more balls and bats 
    • Initiate basketball field and Futsal
    • Allow ball/frisbee games in the Ruskin Courtyard (SU)
    • Another console
    • More board games

 

  • Mental wellbeing
    • More recognition
    • A better quiet place – soothing, where one can find solace. Laid back relaxed nights; reflection spaces
    • Provide more supplies
  • More reach/marketing – promotion, propagation
  • Install private pods for 1 on 1 meetings (reflection sessions)

 

  • Accommodation
    • Upgraded accommodation options for students
    • Reliable rooms
    • Changes made on the security perspective of student Accommodations
    • Clean and tidy kitchens

 

  • Bring an ice cream machine
    • Collab with Jack’s Gelato Ice cream Cambridge

 

  • Changes to prayer room on Campus
    • Soundproof walls/ panels

 

  • Walk-in Career Sessions
    • Less wait times
    • More Job Interviews on Campus
    • New staff to help
    • Quick replies

 

  • Tie up with societies
    • Create more opportunities for students to experience
    • More events with the SU and societies
