“There is not much work being a Rep so it does not interfere with studies and it is an interesting experience that has given me some insights into the way the university operates. Being a Rep is also good if you wish to become a Student Union Officer and I would recommend it to anyone thinking of becoming one.”
Welcome
Hello and welcome to the Student Representation homepage. If you are a current student rep please click here. If you are interested in becoming a student rep, then please read on.
What are Student Reps?
Student reps are an important method of communication between students, the University and the Students’ Union. They act as a link between staff and students to ensure that a student perspective is taken into account when decisions are made. Reps identify issues that are relevant to their peers and take them to forums such as Programme Committees where they can be considered and discussed. Reps are not expected to give advice on individual problems, but should refer their fellows to an appropriate source of help.
Laura Holman (Cambridge) and Debbie Phillipson (Chelmsford) are your Student Representative Co-ordinators. Alison Sutton and Chrissie Smith administer Student Representation on the Fulbourn and Peterborough campuses. Our jobs is to get you involved, as yours is the most important voice we hear. We want to make sure that you are supported and encouraged to maximise the student experience, not just for yourselves, but also for your peers and many thousands of students in the future.

Janos Hefko – HND Computing“It is a great way to get to know friendly and like minded people and to gain a deeper insight into the internal work of the university. During my time as a student rep, I also enhanced many of my abilities such as writing, public speech and general problem solving skills.”
Why be a Student Representative?
Being a rep allows you to learn a number of transferable skills including:

Jennifer Rolls – BA(hons) Criminology“I was unaware as to how much care and attention is involved in my rep training. I found it challenging and also very interesting and informative. I am looking forward to next year and to continue doing my best to assist other students in any way possible in my position as student rep.”
Student Union Evaluation Initiative
The Student Union Evaluation Initiative (SUEI) is an assessment model designed to apply a quality framework to the work of the Students’ Union in order to drive forward continuous improvement in services and activities. Its prime motivator is to make a positive difference to the experience of students whilst at University and the initiative is therefore student-focussed and student-led. As part of the SUEI process, representation has been reviewed and developed to ensure the best possible service is available to you. Click here for more information about SUEI.
